| Beach diving Hawaii Oahu Island West Shore Depth:40 feet |
Electric Beach is located on the Westside of Oahu. Since here is less populated
by people the visibility of the water is nice and clear. The visibility
is usually about a 100ft. The reason they call this place Electric Beach
is because there is an electric power plant right next to the shoreline.
About 200 yards offshore is an underground pipeline that the electric company
uses to cool down there systems. After cooling their systems, they let
the warm salt water out of this large pipe thus creating a large reef about
20ft. high. On this reef you'll see hundreds of different types of reef
fishes. Some of which are very rare and expensive in the aquarium trade. There are also a lot of sea turtles
that hang out, enjoying the nice warmth of the water. Also among these
fishes, we find the Giant Barracuda. They usually extend to about 6 feet
weighting in about 90 pounds. They hang out in groups, hovering above the
jet of warm water coming out of this large pipeline. Groups as large as
ten have been seen feeding on the fishes that live there. You might see
eagle rays that usually swim right pass you as if you weren't there. This
is definitely one of the best diving spots on the island of Oahu. This is a perfect certified dive for people who love to see a variety
of all different species of marine life and love long bottom times. Since
the max depth is about 40ft.The bottom time for each of the dives is set
for 45 minutes. After your two dives, you'll have a total bottom time of
1 hour and 30 minutes. The temperature ranges for 70-75f. (21\24C.).The
visibility averages about 80ft-100ft. |
